Simon Thomas is an international business consultant, with 25 years’ experience in the manufacture of thermoplastic structured wall pipes and products for the water and construction sectors. He was managing director at Asset International Limited in UK from 2001 to 2018, where he helped to introduce the first large diameter HDPE structured wall products into the UK marketplace.
He developed Weholite HDPE Structured Wall Pipes into one of the most recognisable brands in the industry by changing business focus - initially to a solutions provider and then, most recently, to a British manufacturing company. By pioneering the brave new world of offsite build (DfMA) he attempted to change industry perception of value, risk and innovation. He was responsible for driving the Weholite business in the UK towards Industry 4.0 by introducing automation into the prefabrication plant; making it a safer and more efficient working environment, during this process developing and investing in the World’s first robotic milling cutter for large diameter thermoplastic pipes.
Until 2018, he represented Asset on the Large Diameter Pipes Committee of the British Plastics Federation and he now travels the World advising and helping to develop Weholite thermoplastic structured wall pipe businesses for Uponor Infra Oy and their Licensees.
